Course Summary

This certificate course has been accredited by NGOS like the United Nations for their communications officer training.
The course combines Design Thinking with Mobile journalism and trainees will use innovation methods to develop a video story plan and then use mobile journalism methods to make prototypes that support the concept developed.

In this masterclass you will learn how to plan, film, edit and measure the impact of audience-centered stories.

Smart Film School

This course is taught by Robb Montgomery

Robb teaches mobile journalism at news organizations, media development programs, and universities worldwide. He is the author of two books: Mobile Journalism and Smartphone Video Storytelling (Routledge – New York & London). Montgomery is also an award-winning documentary filmmaker and former newspaper editor (Chicago Sun-Times and Chicago Tribune).

He is a lead trainer for the Thomson Reuters Foundation, WAN-IFRA, Journalism Co UK and IREX and teaches the certificate course in Digital Storytelling for the public information officers of the United Nations.

Online and in-person he trains mobile journalism methods to reporters from CNN, The New York Times, Reuters, Channel News Asia, Belgian Public Television, Russ Media, Reuters, Radio Free Europe, TVN, TVP, VRT, MTV3, France24, IREX, International Red Cross, and Singapore Press Holdings. 

In 2011 he developed the broadcast mobile journalism training program for 600 Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty correspondents and has trained more than 30,000 storytellers in mobile video storytelling for TV, social media, YouTube and news outlets.

He holds a b.a. in Journalism (1990 - Eastern Illinois University).
